Uncle Zeke's Top 20 o' 2013: #17- JASON ISBELL: "Southeastern"

#17- Jason Isbell: "Southeastern:

Number 17 of the bountiful of great records released in 2014 (in MY world) is "Southeastern", by Jason Isbell.  Isbell, a former member of Drive-By Truckers, has apparently lived a lot in his 35 years. The singer/songwriter delves into some dark territory on this solo album, but one that manages to engage the listener.  Most of the time.

Truth be told, I only get completely egaged when Isbell ventures into the more somber, atmospheric music. I am a sucker for good Alt-Country and this album is full of it. Now, if only we could get him to do a duet with Tift Merritt, my life would be complete.

Enjoy this live performance on KEXP. I know I will.
