Number 19: GOLDFRAPP- "Tales of Us"
Number 19 on my Top 20 of 2013 list is the latest release from British duo, GOLDFRAPP. Goldfrapp consists of Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory. I spent several years wondering if Will Gregory was related to Glenn Gregory of Heaven 17, but was shocked to find out that Will Gregory is William Gregory of Tears For Fears fame. He wasn't a full time member of that band, but did play saxophone on "Songs From The Big Chair", as well as the subsequent tour for that album. Go figure that a relatively unknown sax player ends up playing keyboards in one of the highest profile Electro-Pop bands of the last decade. That said, this album, "Tales of Us", is anything BUT Electro-Pop. Lush... quite...ethereal are words that describe this album. It is as far a departure from the Goldfrapp you have grown to love, but a most welcome one.
